Claudette Colvin

Before Rosa Parks there was Claudette Colvin. A 16 year old school student is today’s#blackhistorymonth cosplay was arrested arrested for refusing to sit in the colored section of a bus in Montgomery Alabama on March 2nd 1955. Civil rights leaders choose not publicize Colvins act of civil disobedience due to the fact the 16 year old was pregnant and unmarried at the time. On Dec 1st 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on the bus and was arrested, setting off the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Colvin was a plaintiff in the Bower v Gayle Federal court case in 1956, testifying that bus segregation was unlawful. On Dec 20th 1956 the Supreame Court issued an order to the state of Alabama and Montgomery to end bus segregation.
